Leading the Secondary School Classroom: Effective Strategies for Teachers

Wednesdays, September 9 - October 14, 4:00 p.m. CT

This six-week course will equip teachers with practical strategies to build respectful relationships, establish clear expectations, and foster student engagement while supporting the mission and vision of Christian education. Participants will explore the role of the teacher as classroom leader and the foundational principles of classroom management, learning structures, communication, and discipline within the secondary classroom.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Develop and implement classroom rules, structures, and routines that proactively promote a safe, orderly, and Christ-centered learning environments
2. Analyze the importance of positive teacher-student relationships in fostering trust, respect and accountability and apply relationship-building strategies in the classroom.
3. Implement effective classroom organization strategies to maximize instructional time and encourage student responsibility.
4. Recognize the interrelationship between classroom management and student engagement and design engaging learning experiences that proactively mitigate issues.
5. Apply proactive Biblical discipline practices that effectively address student behavior with consistency, accountability, grace, and respect for the dignity of each student.
6. Create a plan that strengthens internal connections with colleagues and partnerships with students and families.
